Qiqihar Medical University (QMU), located in the hometown of world-famous red-crowned cranes, stands by the scenic Nenjiang River and is a regular university of Heilongjiang Province. Founded in 1946, the University has a history of more than 63 years. The total value of fixed assets amounts to 490 million Yuan, with a total area of 1,040,000 square meters and the building area of 301,000 square meters.

Currently, QMU boasts a staff of 3,453 including 952 professors and associate professors and more than 50% teachers with Master’s and Doctoral Degrees. The number of enrollment is 14,944, consisting of 10,081 undergraduate students and 3-year students, 4,841 adult continuing education students. The undergraduate education program offers 14 specialties and 6 disciplinary orientations; the 3-year education program offers 8 specialties and the adult education program offers 17 specialties. The specialties above cover the full spectrum of medicine as well as three other disciplines: science, engineering and managing. Among all the specialties, Psychiatry Medicine is the National First-class Characteristic Specialty and Clinical Medicine, Pharmacy and Psychiatry Medicine are the Provincial-level Key Constructing Specialties. Pharmacology, Psychiatry and Mental Hygienics are the Provincial-level Key Courses and Pathology, Medical Psychology, Regional Anatomy and Preventive Medicine are the Provincial-level High-quality Courses. The University has set up 9 teaching and experiment centers, in which Pharmacy Experimental Model Center is the Provincial Experiment Teaching Model Center.

The University possesses 10 research institutes, including Medicine and Drug Research Institute, Mental Health Research Institute, Gynecology and Blood Disease Research Institute, etc. Medicine and Drug Research Institute was approved as Post-doctoral Research Workstation by Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security. The University has established 13 scientific research institutions including the Research and Development Lab for Anti-tumor with Natural Drugs, the Microecology Engineering Research Center, Central Laboratory, etc. The Research and Development Lab for Anti-tumor with Natural Drugs was approved as the Key Constructing Lab of Provincial Universities. The Microecology Engineering Technology Extension Center was approved as the Generic Technology Development Extension Center for Small and Medium- sized Enterprises in Heilongjiang Province.

Qiqihar Mental Health Association and other 8 institutes are set up in Qiqihar Medical University. In the past five years, the University has undertaken 495 scientific research projects at different levels and 20 projects of National Natural Science Fund of China (NSFC) including 4 directed projects, presided over 31 Provincial Natural Science Fund Projects and other ministerial-level projects, and has obtained 343 scientific research projects of Heilongjiang Education Department and other bureau level projects. The scientific research funds aggregated 4.52million Yuan. 2 items of research projects have been awarded the second prize and 4 items of third prize for Heilongjiang Province Scientific and Technological Progress Awards, 11 items won awards for the Science and Technology Award of Heilongjiang Education Department and 66 items won awards for Scientific and Technological Progress Awards of Qiqihar. 4 items have been granted the Patent of National Invention and Patent of Utility Model. 1,614 academic papers have been issued, among which 26 papers have been selected in SCI, EI and ISTP. 87 monographs and translation works have been published. Over 30 textbooks planned by Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health have been edited and co-edited.

The Library of QMU has a collection of 840,000 volumes of books and provides CD-ROM Retrieval System and Electronic Reading Section. 3 Journals are sponsored by the University— Journal of Qiqihar Medical University, Chinese Modern Nursing, and Nervous Diseases and Mental Hygiene, which are issued domestically and abroad. Chinese Modern Nursing is the national publication and the others are the provincial publication. The headquarters of the Periodical Press is located in Beijing. Besides, the University has already established the campus network system with 2, 837 kinds of online teaching resources.
The University has 9 affiliated hospitals, in which the total number of beds for inpatients amounts to 3,770. In addition, the University has 25 teaching and training hospitals, 2 teaching bases and 4 training schools. The total number of beds in teaching and training hospitals amounts to 11,114, which can meet the needs of clinical teaching and practice to the fullest extent.
QMU lays great emphasis on exchange and cooperation, and has established friendly interscholastic relationships with many universities nationally, regionally and internationally, such as Union Medical University, Kanazawa Medical University of Japan, Kagawa University of Japan, Brisbane Southbank Institute of Australia, Russia Chita State Medical College , Eastern Siberia Technical and Scientific University of Russia, Our Lady of Fatima University of the Philippines, Emilio Aguinaldo College of the Philippines etc.. Meanwhile, the University has recruited foreign teachers from the USA, England, Japan, Russia, Kenya etc., and enrolled international students, some of whom are from South Asia. Teachers and students of QMU have been sent to go to the Philippines for further study.
